Qingyang Tom Xi 席青阳
MUSICIAN | TECHNOLOGIST
I'm a PhD candidate at NYU's Music and Audio Research Lab (MARL), working on audio informatics with Dr. Brian McFee. I'm also a classically trained pianist, music director, and composer. As a musician and technologist, my overall mission is to enliven the practice of human music making, in the context of, and with the help of, contemporary technologies.
Previously, I worked as electronic music programmer for a variety of shows both in and out of NYC, including shows off-Broadway and the reality talent show The Voice in China. I received my master's in music technology from NYU Steinhardt, and my bachelor's in piano performance and composition from Boston University. My research interests are at the intersection of audio informatics, music theory, and mathematics. I'm currently working on more explainable, automatic methods for music structure analysis. My master's thesis culminated in designing and releasing GuitarSet, a dataset of acoustic guitar recordings with high precision note-level annotations. More info: CV | GitHub | Google Scholar |
